“Disclaimer”

No piece of equipment, simple or complex, will change your body if not used properly.  No single exercise is a stand-alone tool which can harvest results, if not performed correctly, at the proper intensity, or at the right time.

In most cases, as often as it happens, automobile accidents are the fault of the driver.  The victim will do one of the following things:  Become momentarily careless, miscalculate the capability of the vehicle, or misjudge his own ability.  So it is with exercise.  The equipment poses no threat when treated with respect.  So just because you’ve been driving your SUV for many years; doesn’t mean I’m going to let you jump in a loaded 80,ooo lb. Freightliner and try going up—no—down, a steep hill…

So why would I allow you to pick up one of my bells without first teaching you technique?  Unfortunately there are those who would profit from the marketing of a “new craze” in exercise without a respect or understanding of its proper place or purpose.  I am not one of them.

Kettlebells are metal balls with handles.  Their shape allows the user to manipulate leverage and velocity in a way that often cannot be duplicated with dumbbells or barbells.  That’s it.  So, with ballistic exercises such as a swing or kettlebell snatch, be aware that fast-moving things are harder to control than slow ones!  But herein lays the simultaneous advantage of this type of training.

More or less, the benefits of this type of training are:  Lower back stability through increased muscle endurance and improved lumbo-pelvic rhythm, “power endurance” in the hip, a decreased body composition due to a high metabolic demand, a reduced chance of non-contact knee injury, and the learning of the valsalva pressurization technique.  Get this from doing one exercise—the kettlebell swing!

More than an "Instructor"

Myself, my son and my wife work with Mike, and we have for a little over a year so far. I began with Mike as I had him work with my son "working' my sons running technique. Mike is an accomplished Track and field athlete as well as an accomplished keetle bell instructor that is motivated to be the best. Mike understands how to train a MMA fighter and the difference between that type of athleticism and a 12 year old baseball player as well as a housewife who wants to just look great. I am beyond happy with what he has brought to our family and the uniqueness of his workout.

Phenomenal Instruction

Having never used kettle bells before, I was a bit unsure how such an "archaic-looking" method would benefit me more than the high-tech machines that litter the gym. Under Mike's instruction, I have come to appreciate what a great work-out can be achieved by doing numerous variations of exercises using the kettle bells alone. Mike is truly a master of his craft!

Pushes me past my "limits"

As a Probation Corrections Officer charged with teaching physical fitness to the juvenile felons on my caseload, I am always looking for new inovative methods of strength training. I started training with Mike Visscher because I wanted to learn the right way to train with kettlebells to avoid injury to my 47 year old body. I also needed to develop a level of proficiency with kettlebells that would allow me to teach them to the boys on my caseload. Mike's positive energy, knowlege, professionalism, and encouragement, make training a pleasure. He pushes me past my self-imposed limits, ever challenging me to get stronger and better with each training session. Mike is now training me for an upcoming RKC challenge a few months from now. With Mike's help, I'm sure I will soon join the proud ranks of the RKC. Mike Visscher is the best trainer I have ever worked with. Thanks Mike!
